Home Cottage Luing Ferry
Oban, Gateway to the Isles
Oban - the gateway to the Western Isles is Argyll's principal town and is 16 miles from Luing. From here there are boat and steamer trips to many islands including the well-known destinations of Mull, Iona and Staffa. Oban has a wide range of leisure facilities, including a modern sports centre that provides a swimming pool, water slide, tennis courts and climbing wall. An 18-hole golf course is also found in the town. There is a wide range of restaurants, a whisky distillery, a cinema, a visitors centre and even a small privately owned zoo, the owners of which are extremely informative and will allow some of the animals to be handled.

The surrounding countryside has excellent walking/cycling and a large number of visitor attractions, from historic monuments to castle tours to learning to scuba dive. There is a selection of promotional leaflets at the cottage. The tourist information centre at Oban has a comprehensive list.
